Former mayor of Garden Grove, Walter "Walt" Donovan, 93, passed away on March 16, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Diane of 71 years; his son Walter M. Donovan (Vicki); daughter Victoria Basque (Bob). He was Grandpa to eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his son Tom and his brother Cliff.

He retired after 35 years from Southern California Edison as an area manager. Walt served on the Garden Grove City Council for 12 years and as mayor for 4 years. He graduated from Garden Grove High School where he also served as student body president.

His passion was football and he attended the University of Oregon on a football scholarship, where he tied for the most touchdowns in the Pacific Coast Football League his first year. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He loved golf, traveling, growing bonsai and raising koi fish.

A celebration of Walt's life was held on Sunday, April 7th at KiwanisLand in Garden Grove.
