William "Cookie" Adelstein age 84 died on Friday, October 4, 2002, was a much loved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 29, 1918, the second of three sons of Solomon and Yetta Adelstein. Cookie moved to Texas while employed by Wohl Shoe Co. Here he met the love of his life and future bride, Helen Ansel. They were married August 17, 1941. Not long after they wed, Cookie entered WWII where he helped open up the Shanghai Port command under General Douglas MacArthur. After his war service Cookie moved his family to San Antonio where he and Helen opened up a ladies' shoe store downtown and later the city's first women's clothing outlet store, Cookie's Factory Outlet, in 1953. Cookie was an outstanding bowler and participated in several city leagues, scoring "perfect" 300 games on occasion. This joy and sport he shared with his many friends and especially with his grandsons. Cookie was also a generous man to many charities and causes. Yet his greatest sources of pride were his two children, Yvonne and Reuben, and Reuben's tao sons. The light was never brighter in his eyes than when he was sharing in their lives' special moments. Cookie was preceded in death by his older brother. Max Ade. He was survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Adelstein; daughter Yvonne "Bitsy" Adelstein; son Reuben; daughter-in-law; grandchildren; and great granddaughters; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Esther Adelstein; and many loving nieces and nephews. Services were October 6, 2002 at Agudas Achim Memorial Gardens with arrangements by Porter Loring Mortuary.
