Clarence Othelo Ferguson was born November 7, 1894 in Bristol, Virginia to George Ferguson and Margaret A. [aka Magnolia] Ballou.

Most likely, he was named after his mother's brother, Henry Othelo Ballou [FAG #197186516].

Evidently, Clarence's father, George Ferguson died before 1908 as his mother, Margaret had left Roane County, Tennessee and went West where she was married, as a widow, to George McDonald in Spokane, Washington on February 19, 1908.

On the 1900 census, Clarence was 17 years old and was a railroad office tariff clerk. He was a roomer with Henry and Blanche King Hale in Washington County, Tennessee.

Clarence had an older brother, Robert Oscar Ferguson who was born August 17, 1888 in Wytheville, Wythe County, Virginia. He also had a sister, Mary who went West with her mother; she was born July 12, 1897 in Bristol, Tennessee.

In 1917, when Clarence registered for the World War Draft, he along with his wife Corda Gearhart Ferguson and their son, Martin Gearhart Ferguson were living in Lynchburg, Bedford County, Virginia. Clarence was a Norfolk & Western Railway Rate clerk.

His wife, Corda was listed on the 1920 Idaho census with his mother Margaret (who was now using the name Magnolia) and her husband, George McDonald. But the whereabouts of Clarence and their son, Martin, for this time period, has not been determined.

Son, Martin appears on the 1940 census with his mother, Corda and her new husband, Bannard Blake who were living in Arlington, Virginia. Martin was a construction engineer. Martin served in the Army from 1940 till 1945.

Perhaps, Clarence also served in the military and lost his life.

It is surmised that Clarence's father, George was the son of Hugh Dobson Ferguson [FAG #178159968] and Frances A. Tisinger/Tysinger.

Hugh had a son William who was a pallbearer for Clarence's brother, Robert.
