Edwin was enumerated in the household of William H. Andrews and Abigail A. Converse in the 1850 US Federal Census on 6 Aug 1850 at Douglas, MA.

On 5 Jan 1862 Edwin, a clerk, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry joining the unit in Poolesville, MD, being credited to the quota of Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 19 years old.

On 30 Dec 1862 Edwin ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts at Falmouth, Stafford County, Virginia, due to disability.

On 27 Oct 1877 Edwin married Flora E. Hamlin, 21, daughter of William H. and Susan E. (Matson) Hamlin, at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, in a first marriage for both. There were no known children of the marriage.

Edwin F. Andrews died on 16 Mar 1883 at Danvers, Essex County, Massachusetts, of gangrenous lungs. He was 40 years old.

Edwin also served in the 3rd Rhode Island Cavalry, Co. H, according to the pension file index as sergeant.
