James Roseman Abbott, 83, of Batesville died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at McClellan VA Hospital in Little Rock.

He was born November 4, 1923 in Earle, Arkansas the son of Calvin H. Abbott and Thelma Snelson Abbott.

He was a mechanic in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a welder by trade and sold insurance for Reliable Life Insurance Company. He enjoyed woodworking, built cabinet shelves, and other furniture which he would take to War Eagle Craft Fair and other craft fairs. He was an avid reader and enjoyed studying the Bible. He was a founding and charter member of First Church UPC in Batesville.

He is survived by three sons, Ron Abbott of Batesville, Billy Abbott of Nortonville, Kentucky, and Danny Abbott of Collierville, Tennessee; three daughters, Marsha Cole of Batesville, Kathryn Wood of Maumelle, and Sandra White of Batesville; a brother, J. B. Abbott of Red Bluff, California; a sister, Iona Abbott of West Memphis, Arkansas; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther Abbott; one son, Jimmy Abbott, Sr., and three grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at First Church UPC in Batesville officiated by Rev. M. D. Parmley and Rev. Chris Hancock. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Batesville by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers will be Joshua White, Kyle White, Chris Sullivan, Rev. Johnathan Abbott, Nathan Abbott, and Jeremy Abbott. Honorary pallbearers are Stan Cole, Jr., Mike Rankin, Justin Smith, Shawn Sullivan, Jimmy Abbott, Jr., and Malachi Moss.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
