Hall of Fame Professional Hockey Player, Coach. For seventeen seasons (1944 to 1960 and 1964 to 1965), he played at the left-wing position in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. His father Bert Lindsay was a former professional hockey player (goaltender), Ted played with the St. Michael's Majors, prior to his promotion to the NHL during the 1944-1945 season. During the course of his career with Detroit, Lindsay (along with Gordie Howe, Red Kelly and Sid Abel) formed one of the greatest offensive units in the history of hockey. Four Stanley Cup Titles were captured for the Red Wings during Lindsay's leadership (1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955). Individually, he achieved all star status nine-times and was the recipient of the Art Ross Trophy for the 1949-1950 season. In 1,068 career regular season games, he compiled 379 points, with 472 assists. Lindsay went on to serve as the Detroit Red Wings' general manager and was their interim head coach for parts of two seasons (1979 to 1981). He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966. He is widely regarded as being one of the greatest players in the history of the National Hockey League.
