John W. Holmes age 80, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019.

He is survived by his daughters, Dawn (Paul) Sturman and Shelley (Lex) Venditti; grandchildren, Nicole (Andy) Bullock, Raquel (Rick) Atkins, Wade Sturman and Erin Sturman; great grandchildren, Olivia and Trevor Bullock and Oliver Atkins; sister, Doty Weber; fiancé, Sharon VanderHye; step-son, Adam (Cathy) VanderHye; grandchildren, Ryan and Katie VanderHye and Anya and Joshua Kopischke; and many extended family members and friends.

Preceded in death by his sisters, Marge Tinken, Marion Barthel, Gloria Pappas, JoAnn Dodoer, Lois Saunders and Pat Peloquin.

John was born on July 30, 1938 in Blue Island, IL to the late Louis and Edna Holmes and was a graduate of Eisenhower High School and went on to earn his BA from DePaul University. He retired from computer software sales working at Arthur Anderson, Primavera, Data General and Sealy Posturepedic. John was an active member of his church, the St. John Garden Club, the Chicago Computer Society and the American Association of Individual Investors. He enjoyed playing tennis at the Park Forest Tennis and Racquet Club, golf, sailing, skiing, scuba diving, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. John was a loving son, brother, fiancé, father and grandfather and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Faith Church 100 E. 81st Avenue Dyer, IN with Pastor Rich Bawinkel officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
