Jovita was born Maria Jacoba Gonzalez on April 1, 1889 in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, to Marcelino Gonzalez and Virginia Padilla, and was baptized there on April 23, 1889. When she immigrated to Texas, she changed her name to Jovita Gonzales and her birth-year to 1893. Her certificate of death wrongly states that she was born February 15, 1900.
She married Teofilo Ramirez Cervantes on November 6, 1908 at San Fernando de Rosas Parish in Zaragoza, Mexico. They had 7 children, four in Zaragoza and three after their immigration to San Antonio, Texas, in 1914.
At the age of 65, Jovita passed away at her home in San Antonio, Texas on November 2, 1954 from cardiac failure.
