Services for Melvin J. Turner, 74, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born Dec. 9, 1932, in Shay to Fred Edward Turner and Emmer Gertrude (Toombs) Turner, he died May 31, 2007, in Ardmore. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Marvin V. Turner, and one sister, Dorothy Schane. He married Myrna Lou Parks on April 28, 1951, in Borger, Texas.
Melvin lived in Marshall County until 1938, when he moved to Freer, Texas. Around 1943, he moved to Borger, Texas, where he met and married his loving wife of 56 years, Myrna. The couple moved back to Freer in 1954 and then back to Borger in 1958. The family chose to move to Carter County in 1960.
He went to work for City Produce for 10 1/2 years. In 1971 he went to work for Uniroyal and retired in 1993 after 23 years of employment.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Betty Fernandez and Donna Eads, both of Ardmore; one granddaughter, Susan Green; four grandsons, Michael Edwards, Jason Eads, Matthew Eads and Jeremiah Edwards; two step granddaughters, Jessica Fernandez and Krystal Hensley; one step grandson, Lance Fernandez; one great granddaughter; three great grandsons; and two step great granddaughters.
Bearers are Michael L. Edwards Jr., Jeremiah Edwards, Taylor Edwards, Dustin Hensley, Ricky Reynolds and Dewayne Turner. Honorary bearers are Ralph Schane and Randy Weems.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
