One John S. MORRIS enlisted (in and out as a Private) on 04 AUG 1863 for a period of six months in Georgia Militia District #921 (later called Bozeman's District) in Captain B. A. THORNTON's Company ("Muscogee Guards"), Georgia Infantry, C.S.A.

Perhaps the John S. MORRIS who entered and separated as a Private in Co A (under Captain F. W. ACEE), 1st City Battalion, Georgia Infantry (Columbus). The 1st City Battalion Infantry, State Guards - also known as the 1st City Battalion (of Columbus) and Jaques' Battalion of Reserves - appears to have been organized in May 1864 and operated under the command of Major Samuel R. JAQUES, who had been captain of Company A in the 19th Battalion. A number of men in the 1st City Battalion. had previously been in the 19th Battalion.

Henry MORRIS, M. G. MORRIS, and William MORRIS served in Company C and David A. MORRIS in Company F. Henry and William appear on a roster for Company E of the 19th Battalion, and David appears on a roster for Company A of the 19th. The widow of Rev. Richard Ivey MORRIS received a pension in Alabama for his service in Jakes (Jaques') Battalion in Columbus, but his name has not been found in the rosters.
