Merlin Joseph Hassen, age 93, of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal life, Saturday morning, January 19, 2019, at Perrysburg Commons. He was born November 9, 1925 in Swanton to Clarence Joseph and Julia M. (Raab) Hassen. Merlin was a graduate of Swanton High School and was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. On August 2, 1947, he married Mildred Studenka. She preceded him in death in March of 1986.

Merlin was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. He was a life-long farmer and retired from Champion Spark Plug after 30 years working in tool and die. He loved fixing and tinkering with small engines and was the go to guy when it came to fixing just about anything. Merlin was an overall hands on kind of guy. He even built the home where he and his wife Mildred raised their family. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling in his truck camper to Florida and Alaska.

Merlin will be missed by his daughters, Janet (Michael) Delauter and Diane (Daniel) King; his sons, Ron (Barb) Hassen and David (Michele) Hassen; grandchildren, Wendy (Chad) Jones, Kristen Ebersole, Eric (Valerie) Delauter, Lesli (Jamie) Sieminski, Jason King, Shaun Hassen, Sheena (Justin) Brown, Brandon Hassen, Devin Hassen and Brooke Hassen; 5 great-grandchildren, Alexander, MacKenzie, Jack, Savannah and Kaylee, and his sister-in-law, Mary L. Gajdosdik.

Besides his wife, Mildred, Merlin was preceded in death by his parents.
