Richard (Dick) Aberth, 73, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., died Friday, June 22.
He had been a resident of Florida for 20 years, and was formerly of Akron. Mr. Aberth had been involved in the food service industry all his life, beginning as co-owner and operator of City Baking Co., one of Ohio's largest bakeries. He is most remembered as owner and operator of Poor Richard's Pub Restaurant in Bath, one of Ohio's finest restaurants. After a brief period of early retirement, he moved to Florida and became involved in the HoliDAY, Inn (sic) chain, opening and managing inns at Fort Byers Beach and Longboat Key. Mr Aberth was recognized in the industry as an expert chef, baker and hotel manager.
He is remembered as a lover of God and family, a poet and musician. He loved Art Tatum, Tony Mottola, Saul Lucas, Louis L'Amour, crossword puzzles and solitaire.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Michael Aberth of Columbus; daughter, Helen Henderson of Akron; brother George Aberth of Naples, Florida; sisters, Mrs. Pearl Keck and Mrs. Ruth Sir Louis, both of Akron; and grandchildren, Jennifer and Mark Henderson.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Rose Hill Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, Rev. Gene Chiavetta of Firestone Park Christian Church officiating.
