George Henry Aberth, born July 11, 1909, in Akron, died June 5, 2002, in Naples, Fla

An Akron resident most of his life, he was a member of First Grace United Church of Christ. He actively served the church in many capacities, including deacon and elder, cemetery board treasurer, and building fund committee. He also attented Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church after he moved to Naples, Fla., in 1975.

His lifetime work was at the family-owned business, the City Baking Co., under the guidance of his parents, Henry J. and Margaret Aberth, now deceased. George continued as manager and president, having acquired the Kaase Co. along with the City Baking Co., until he retired in 1978.

Mr. Aberth graduated from Central High School in 1926 and attended Heidelberg College and Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He married Frances Fisher in 1936, a former beauty queen and Miss Akron 1932.

A devoted husband and father of four children, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances; son, George H. Aberth Jr. (Sally) of Niceville, Fla., and their two children, Casey and Zachary; son, Joel R Aberth (Bonnie) of Akron, and their two children, Brian (Karrie) and Emily; great-granddaughter, Madeline Aberth; daughter, Judith D. Aberth of Penn Valley, Calif.; daughter, Susan Briske (Jim) of Penn Valley, Calif., and their two children, Bradford and Barrett. His two surviving sisters are Pearl Keck of Medina and Ruth Sir Louis of Copley. He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Hiss and Selma Sir Louis, and brothers, Richard and Jacque Aberth.

Mr. Aberth was a 50-year Master Mason in the Akron Lodge 83. He also served in the Shrine, Yusef Khan Grotto, and belonged to the Oriental Band. He was a 50-year member of the Cuyahoga Falls Kiwanis Club, and served as president of Palm River Home Owners Association in 1978 in Naples, Fla.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. MONDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Donard M. Engle officiation. Private interment at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Grace United Church of Christ, 350 S.
