William B. McCollum was born in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, the son of Hiram D. and Tennessee "Tennie" Archer McCollum of Tennessee. He married Mary L. "Mollie" Rogers, the daughter of Hugh Riah and Mary Ann Patton Rogers in Tishomingo County, Mississippi 1883. In 1887, after the death of his father-in-law, the widow Mary Patton Rogers and her children Mattie A. Tynes, Maggie Beachum, Dorn Rogers and Hugh Rogers Jr. signed a warranty deed in Tishomingo County leaving their interest in the family land to William and Mary L. McCollum. All but Mattie Tynes left to Hill County, Texas. Then in February 1893 the McCollums sold their Mississippi land to C.D. Brown and they joined her brother Dorn Rogers in Itasca, Hill County, Texas. William B. McCollum was a blacksmith, and worked with his brother-in-law Dorn Rogers in the "Lone Star Carriage Shop".

Maggie L. McCollum 1884; Mavis McCollum 1886; Virgil Roy McCollum 1891; Lewis P. McCollum 1892-1896; Nellie G. 1897; William Hugh McCollum 1900-1967; Benjamin Frank McCollum 1903-1981.
