Julia was born in New York state to German immigrants, Jacob and Philipina Goettel. She apparently was first married to a man with the last name Sherlock and had at least one daughter, Elizabeth. Circa 1873 Julia married Owen Donovan and they had at least 8 children together: Louisa, Emma, Agnes, Edith, Owen Jr, Edward, William and David. (Census info from 1900 states that Julia was the mother of 10 children, so perhaps one had died when young.)

Julia's obituary says that she died in 1914 "after a long illness." Her funeral was held at St. John the Baptist Church in Syracuse. I have been unable to confirm that she is buried in St. Agnes Cemetery, but since her husband is here, I assume she is as well. I have checked other local cemeteries where she had other family members buried and no one else has a record for her.
