VIRGIL V. AVERY
Virgil V. Avery, 79, of Mexico, formerly of Moberly, died Saturday, March 9, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.
He was born Oct. 17, 1916, at Harrisburg, Mo., the son ov Virgil V. and Anna Proctor Avery. He worked for the Missouri Wilbur Vault. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a prisoner of war for 331 days. He lived in Mexico one year, moving there from Moberly. He was a member of the VFW Post 2654 in Moberly. He was preceded in death by one sister, Oleta McCormick. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law - Donald and Mary Avery of Columbia; a step-daughter, Dorothy Ann Neece, Moberly; four brothers -James and William Avery, both of Moberly, Howard Avery, of Huntsville and Winston Avery, of Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters - Katheryn Gillispie and Emma Jean Burnett, both of Moberly, Betty Ferguson, of Clifton Hill, Mo.; Edna St. Claire, Stover, Mo., Leona Bowman, of Salisbury, Tenn.; two grandchildren - Scott Avery, of Columbia and Lee Anna Little, Moberly; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be Tuesday, at 2 p.m. at Million-Taylor-Patton Funeral Home in Moberly, with Dr. William Watts officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
