Victim of school shooting in Parkland, Florida

Luke T. Hoyer, 15, of Parkland, FL passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Luke was born in Louisville, CO on October 25, 2002. Luke was a quiet young man with simple tastes: basketball, video games, chicken nuggets and anything sweet. He loved his family, his dogs and his friends. Luke didn't need to say much; just having him around made the room feel warm and welcoming. His smile and good nature will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved him. We will continue to feel his presence in our hearts and souls. He will always be our Lukey-Bear.

Luke loved basketball โ€” he was a fan of Clemson Universityโ€™s team and played travel basketball. He also was looking forward to joining the football team at Douglas in the fall. His grandmother Janice Stroud, who last saw her grandson over Christmas, said he had grown โ€œlike a weedโ€ over the summer.

The once little boy was now about 6-foot-2 and spent the time at his grandparentsโ€™ house in South Carolina playing basketball in their yard with his cousins. The kids played games, lovingly picked at one another and had a lot of fun over the holidays, said Stroud and her husband, John Eddie Stroud. Luke always seemed to be smiling.

โ€œHe was just a considerate, sweet young boy, โ€œHe was quiet, but he was just a great kid.โ€

Luke was the youngest of three children. His sister just graduated from college, and his brother is a college student.

โ€œHe was just an all-American kid who didnโ€™t deserve what he got,โ€ John said through tears.Murder Victim. Victim of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018.
