David A. Allen Jr. was born on December 14, 1920 in Poynor, Texas, and passed away on December 25, 2018 at the age of 98. David served 27 years in the United States Air Force as a pilot and flight instructor, and several years in transportation at Ft. Sam Houston. As a WWII pilot, he stood on the deck of the USS Missouri as General MacArthur signed papers for Japan's surrender on September 2, 1945. David enjoyed gardening and just sitting around discussing flying various aircraft including gliders, the many places he visited, and events just getting there and back. He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Lillian M. Allen. David is survived by his children, Joe D. Allen and wife Sandy of Mesquite, TX, Betty J. Tillick and husband Larry of Schertz, TX, James A. Allen and wife Barrie of Midland, MI; sister, Bettye Boyd of Terrell, TX; sister-in-law, Billie Joe Crawford of Utica, MS; grandchildren, Bryan and Geoff Allen, JD Allen, Lacy Janca and numerous nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all who helped make his life more comfortable at Regent Care Center and Legacy at Forest Ridge. A Graveside Services will be held at 9:30AM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to your favorite charity.
