Sergeant Major Haskell M. Clark (USMC Retired), age 95, was born in Goodsprings, TN in 1923. He proudly honored his country by serving 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was sent overseas in March 1941 and returned in September 1946. He served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Shangri-La, USS Block Island and the USS Siapan.

After returning to the States, he toured with Henry Cabot Lodge, Ambassador-at-Large, aboard the USS Roosevelt. He served as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, SC and then the Recruiting Duty in Chattanooga, TN before he saw combat again in Korea. He served various duty stations in the States before one last overseas tour in Okinawa during the Vietnam conflict. Sergeant Major Clark retired from HMX-1, the Presidential Helicopter Squadron at Quantico, VA in 1968.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, he returned to Chattanooga and worked for Western Auto for 11 years where was in the top 10% of the sales force nationwide. The next 19 years were spent serving as a Court Officer in the First Division, Circuit Court in Hamilton County with the late Honorable Robert M. Summitt. After retiring from the court system in 1988, he started Leisure Time Travel Agency with his son-in-law, James Lewis. He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He is a 70-year member and Past Master of Brainerd Masonic Lodge #736, Hill City Chapter, Delta Council and Lookout Commandery. He holds a 32nd degree as a KCCH Scottish Right Mason and is a life member of the Alhambra Shrine. He is a Past Patron of Sunnyside Chapter, and Past Grand Patron for the State of Tennessee, Order of the Eastern Star. He served as the Worthy Grand Chaplin of General Grand Chapter, OES from 2006-2009. He was a past President of Chapter 540 National Sojourners and past Commander of Joe Foss Camp Heroes of ’76. He was a past Commandant of the Chattanooga Detachment of the Marine Corps League and past Department Commandant of the State of Tennessee. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion Post #95, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4848, Chattanooga Half Century Club and the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Della McDaniel Clark and his daughter Ann Durham.

Survived by: Daughters Penny Johnson, Jean Lewis and Gail (Tom) Goodman. Grandchildren: Chris, Shannon, Amy and Caitlin and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:30 pm Monday, December 24, 2018 in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating with the Friendship Sunday School Class serving as Honorary Pallbearers. Interment will follow the services at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. Family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm Monday at the funeral home.
