Romie was born in Grant County, Arkansas, the son of James and Velma and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. In 1952, Romie enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. Romie is a distinguished veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served proudly, retiring after 26 years as a Chief Master Sergeant. Romie began his second career with the Federal Aviation Administration as a Senior Regional Operation Officer retiring for the second time in 1999. During his retirement, he became a member of the Missouri Society Sons of the American Revolution where he accepted many responsibilities and key leadership roles. Romie loved researching his family’s genealogy and he cherished time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would often attend school and sporting activities with them.
Romie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn, his children, Sharon (Stan) and Susan (Dodd) as well as his grandchildren Ryan (Dan), Jordan, and Joshua and great grandchildren Gillian, Braeleigh and Dominik. Romie will also be remembered by his sister Margie and her children, his brother William (Dee) and their children as well as two step-grandchildren Dakota and Dylan.
