Lloyd Thomas Darling

United States Army Corporal served with Company A, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. He was killed in action from small arms fire while serving in South Vietnam. Lloyd was posthumously promoted to Corporal.

On 5-6 September 1968, seven Companies of the 101st Airborne Division conducted a cordon and search operation to the west of Saigon directed at locating and destroying the 7th VC Local Force Battalion. During the night of 6/7 September 1968 the 7th VC assaulted the Alpha 3/187 position near the hamlet of Ap Tran Dua in Hau Nghia Province. Although Alpha 3/187 held its position against the much larger enemy force, 31 American soldiers died in fierce hand-to-hand combat.

Lloyd graduated from Salamanca High School, Salamanca, NY Class of 1967.

He is honored on Panel 45W, Row 49 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
