May 13, 1925 — Nov. 23, 2018

Dolores Jean Skinner passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018. Dolores was born on May 13, 1925, in San Francisco to Joseph and Nellie McCarthy. She attended St. Anne's Elementary and graduated from Presentation High School in San Francisco where she was active in journalism and editor of the school newspaper.

Dolores met the love of her life, Bob, while working at Mrs. Walton's ice cream store, a love story in the making. They were married at St. Anne's on May 27, 1944, upon Bob's graduation from the U.S. Army Aviation Cadet School. Bob's military career took her all over the U.S. and to England, but after making their home in Vacaville in 1955, all deployments brought them back to Vacaville.

Bob passed away in March 2018. He and Dolores were married for 73 years.

Dolores had a varied career in journalism as an editorial columnist for the Vacaville Reporter and the Vallejo Times Herald. She later became a life insurance agent for John Hancock Insurance. Throughout her life, Dolores was active in community affairs and organizations, including The Saturday Club, Soroptimist, Vacaville Museum Guild, American Cancer Relay for Life, St. Mary's Women's Club, St. Joseph's Martha's Ministry, as well as active in PTA, and later taking a seat as a member of the Vacaville Unified School District board from 1973 to 1978. She was also very active at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in the liturgical ministry serving as a lector for many years.

Dolores is survived by her sons, Rob, Gerald (Kathleen), Dan (Denise); daughters, Susie Gilley and Kate Skinner; grandchildren, Angela Skinner Orr, Aaron (Jenna) Skinner, Mac (Tammy) Skinner, Adrian (Aaron) Gardiner, Sean Gilley, Natalie Gilley and Sandy (Ron) Harris; great-grandchildren, Logan, Peyton, Mason and Conner Gardiner, Emily, Caely and Maya Orr, Grace and Faith Skinner, Gabriella and Bridgette Skinner, Alexandra, Aurora and Audrey Harris and Merida Gilley.
