They never married or had any children, they were just devoted to each other. He called her my Darly as his English wasn't good and he couldn't pronounce Darling and it's what he called her till he died.
It was the late 1950s when they met one night while out dancing, my Aunty Joyce had tagged along with her sister Barbara, my mum who only had just recently met my dad had brought Uncle Guy along just to make up a foursome and they were together ever since, even though there was a 16 year age gap it never bothered them.
My Uncle was a bricklayer by trade and did very well with it so they were able to travel overseas, go dancing and dining. In the later years Aunty Joyce never had to cook because he always bought takeaway home from the local restaurants
Their bond was broken when Aunty Guy's kidney's gave out and he had to be hospitalised with dialysis.
I was with him when he passed away at the age of 66.
While he was in hospital Aunty Joyce's son's from her first marriage put her into a nursing home and that's where she slowly deteriorated, not knowing who we were or where she
was. She died a month later in her sleep at the age of 81.
We sent Uncle Guy's body back to Italy where he wanted to be laid to rest and although their bodies are not together I do know that their dear souls will be together for all eternity.
They were both my favourite Uncle and Aunt and I miss very so very much.
