Gaylord Max “Ab” Ward, 81, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born on October 7, 1937 in La Plata, Mo. the son of Harry and Susie Ward.

A lifelong resident of Missouri, he graduated from La Plata High School. Shortly after high school, he joined the United States Army.

Gaylord owned a gas station in La Plata for several years before moving to Jefferson City. He worked in computer operations and programming for Missouri Farm Bureau. He was later employed with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Manager of Information Technology where he retired in 2000.

Gaylord was a member of Concord Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, taught Sunday School and volunteered with their TV Ministry for nearly 15 years. He was also involved with The Gideons International where he was dedicated to telling people about Jesus. Gaylord was even witnessing and passing out Bibles in his last days at the hospital.

Gaylord had a love for photography and remembered taking his boys to the park to play – always the perfect spot for a photographer. He spent time each year visiting his sister in California and enjoyed Florida where he had a timeshare. Gaylord was often found helping those in the community scanning, saving and converting their photographs into DVDs so they would last for years to come. Many of his friends will be looking for a new IT guy as he was always ready to help where he was needed.

Survivors include: his two sons, Vincent Ward and his wife Shelby of Kearney, Mo. and Glen Ward and his wife Dawn of Boonville, Mo.; his five grandchildren, Victoria Ward, Christopher Ward, Nicholas Ward, Zoe Ward and Maya Ward; several nieces and nephews; along with countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and his six older siblings, Ermal Louise Thomson, Harry Ward, Duane Ward, Donovan Ward, Thomas Ward and Anna Margaret Mayer.

Visitation will be held at Concord Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 with his memorial service following at 12:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating.

Graveside services with military honors will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2018 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo.
