Mr. Ales served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he earned the rank of corporal and was honored with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife, Grace (Rizzo); children, Pat (Sharon) Ales, Tina (Steve) Reed, Joe (Robin) Ales and Benita (Robert) Rousseau; brother, Joseph Ales; grandchildren, Benny Ales, Katie Ales, Patrick Ales, Steven Reed, Gracie Reed and Shrah Rousseau; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Pasquale and Petrina Ales; and brother, Salvatore Ales.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ronald Catholic Church, 17701 15 Mile Road (between Utica and Groesbeck), Clinton Township. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today, with a 6 p.m. evening service, at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 13650 E. 15 Mile Road (at Schoenherr), Sterling Heights.
