From The Deseret News (Salt Lake City, UT) - 5 March 2000:
Norma Larue Nunley Tanner, age 71, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, inspiration, and friend returned to the loving arms of her husband Joe and her Heavenly Father on March 4, 2000 after a valiant struggle with cancer.
Norma was born February 18, 1929 to Raymond Isaac Nunley and Rosemoyne Smith Nunley. She married Myron Chamberlain in the Salt Lake Temple in 1947. Following his death in an airplane crash, she later married Howard "JOE" Tanner on February 3, 1951. It was with "Joe" the love of her life, that she had all three of her wonderful children. She was a long time member of the LDS church.
She graduated from Granite High School in 1947 where she was a cheerleader and became a lifelong sports fan, including an avid Utah Jazz and Utah Ute's fan, rarely missing a game. Norma was a beautiful, sweet and loving person, admired and loved by not only her own family but also countless neighbors and friends across the country. She was a very active member of the Cottonwood Club where she was an avid golfer and tennis player. She gave of her time and love to so many in ways too countless to number. She was, it seemed, the perennial host of Huck Finn Day for the kids each year because no one else could do it quite like Norma. She and husband "Joe" loved to travel and to entertain. No doubt Joe, who preceded her in death 14 years ago, is busy making hors d'oeuvres, licking his fingers and preparing to host Norma's arrival party at this very moment. For all of us left behind, whose hearts ache at her loss, we can only say, "We'll miss you so very much, but we know you're off on a wonderful journey, so be at peace knowing we'll all be fine until we meet again."
She is survived by daughter, Ingre Jo (Eric) Tanner-Stilson; sons, Randy (Cally) Tanner, Chad (Nancy) Tanner; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul, Lynn, Phil and Terry Nunley; and sister, Dawn Champion (Donna). Norma was also preceded in death by her first husband; parents; and brother, Sam.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 11 a.m. at the Salt Lake Cottonwood Stake Center, 1830 E. 6400 S. Friends may call Monday 6{150}8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State and Tuesday 10 {150} 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Holladay Memorial Park.
