Dudley Celeste Palmore Atkinson, 85, of Henrico, VA, formerly of Blackstone, VA, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018, at her home. She was married to Gerald W. Atkinson, MD (deceased) and was the youngest of six daughters of parents, Mary Lanier and George Garland Palmore. Dudley was a 1950 graduate of Blackstone High School, 1953 graduate of Johnston-Willis School of Nursing and worked for Johnston-Willis Hospital and Tucker Psychiatric Hospital where she became Superintendent of Nursing. She later worked for Thalhimers Department Stores and retired from the Henrico County Schools system. Dudley is survived by her four sons, Jonathan, Timothy (Julie), Theodore, and Jeffrey (Lane); six grandchildren, Jerry, Sam, Ben, Zach, Brooke and Renee'; two step grandchildren, Kaden and Ashton; and a sister, Helen Frances Butterworth, all of Richmond; four nephews and a niece. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Wednesday, September 26, 2018, in Lakeview Cemetery, Blackstone, VA. Arrangements are by Joseph McMillian Funeral Home of Blackstone.
