Allen L. Flowers, 80, son of Edward and Ollie Bishop Flowers, was born Nov. 18, 1921, near Houston. He died March 21, 2002, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield following several months' illness.
He attended school at Houston and served in the Army Air Force as an engineer gunner with the 5th Air Force Bomb Group, the Jolly Rogers, in the South Pacific during World War II. He was discharged Oct. 23, 1945.
He married Doris Gaddis April 5, 1947. They had two sons. The Flowers lived on the family farm near Houston, where they reared their family. He worked for USDA Veterinary Division for 34 years, retiring in 1986.
He enjoyed his farm, hunting and boating on the lake. He took his last trip on water skis two years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Leona Vandivort, Mable Tuttle and Lois Sponsler; and two brothers, Robert and Clark Flowers.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years; his sons, Ricky and Rob Flowers of Houston; one brother, Ray Flowers of Cabool; a sister, Marjorie Rust of Houston; four grandchildren and two great-grand-children.
Services were March 25 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Groff officiating. Burial was in the Union Cemetery.
