Irene was born February 11, 1913 in Salem Township, Olmsted County. She married Wayne Howd Abbey in 1934. The couple farmed in the Hayfield area before moving to Danesville where they ran a rural store for many years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson and a member of Bethel Circle. She served as Guild president and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed gardening and visiting with dear friends and family.
She is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Jim) Wuollet of Rockford, Carole (Jerry) Hagans of Hemet, CA, and Mary Lou (Presley) Gardner of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Buckman of Wabasha; and one brother, Reuben (Edna) Tverberg of Hayfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 1975; sisters, Ruth Alexander and Joan Lee.
