CANTERBURY - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin C. Gurnee, 64, of Canterbury, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Concord Hospital in Concord, surrounded by his loving family. Ed had lost a hard battle with cancer, but won new life with his Jesus he loved.

Born March 3, 1949, in Glens Falls, N.Y., Ed, son of Howard and Gen (Craver) Gurnee, one of four children. Ed is survived by his wife of 34 years, the former Sue Sanborn. He is also survived by his two daughters. Ed is also survived by his mother, Gen Gurnee and sister.

He is predeceased by his father, his sister, Barbara, and his brother, Robert.

Ed graduated high school from Glens Falls High School in 1966. He attended the Glens Falls Community College and received his BA in engineering from Kansas State University in 1970. In the following years, he received his master's degree from UNH.

Beginning his engineering career, Ed worked at Parsons & Brinkerhoff in Albany, N.Y. After moving to New Hampshire, Ed worked at the NH DOT for 10 years. The past 32 years he has been at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine as a civil engineer, and loved what he did. On the job, he had many opportunities to work in countries around the world.

As a young adult, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Concord, where he sang in the choir for over 30 years and was involved with building projects at Trinity. He was also a member of Trinity Christian School advisory committee. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his life Ed enjoyed the challenge of a new project, working work his hands. He enjoyed renovating the camp at the lake, woodworking, building his own house, working with his tractor clearing the woods, airplanes, sailing, and spending any time he could with his family. Ed's favorite Bible verse was Ephesians 4:32. "And be ye kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you". Ed was known as being a very kind man, always putting others before himself. Even in his last days, he was concerned about everyone else and putting others needs above his own. His smile was memorable and his jokes and sense of humor always had his family smiling.. His love for God shined clearly throughout his life and we are rejoicing He is now with his Savior who he loved. Until we meet again.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 80 Clinton St., Concord.
