NEWPORT NEWS - Dorothy Johnson Boykin, 94, died Saturday, March 15, at Riverside Hospital. Dorothy was a native of Isle of Wight County and a graduate of Windsor High. She and her husband moved to Newport News in 1940 where they remained. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newport News, and Warwick Chapter #43 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was employed by Lerner's Shops, Miller & Rhodes, LaVogue, and Rice's-Nachman's as a sales associate. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Willie Dempsey Boykin, her daughter, Katie Wiggins, three brothers: Joseph E. Johnson, Vernon Keith Johnson, Leroy Johnson; and two sisters: Nannie M. Harrell, and Ida E. Sawyer. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Boykin (née David) of Wilmington, Delaware, her sister, Katherine O'Neil Gallup, of Virginia Beach, four grandchildren: Mischelle Collamore, Andrea Kappes, Michael Wiggins, and Drew Wiggins, all of Williamsburg, 13 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 19 at 1 p.m. in Peninsula Memorial Park.
