Oscar Eugene Fortson Sr. was born on December 28, 1942 to the
union of Sallie Mae Scott and Oscar Fortson, Sr.

Oscar, affectionately known as Buddy, was a man of faith who confessed Christ at an early age. He graduated from Russell County Training School in Hurtsboro, AL where he was a standout basketball player. Shortly after high school, he moved to Milwaukee, WI and eventually met Mary Johnson, who would become his wife of 53 years.

He joined St. Matthew C. M. E. Church and became a devoted member under the guidance of his Aunt Lillie Burts. Oscar worked at Falk Corporations as a machinist and retired after 40 years of service. He was a great man of strength, love, wisdom and determination who would give you the shirt off his back if needed. He enjoyed family, friends and listening to blues and gospel music. Oscar also loved sports, bowling and enjoyed riding on his motorcycle. Moreover, he was know for being a jack of all trades.

Oscar spread his wings and became a guardian angel on Thursday, October 27, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sallie Mae Fortson; father, Oscar Fortson; sister, Lessye Thornton; brother, Isadore Fortson; aunt, Lillie Burts; and cousin, Barbara Stephens.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife Mary Fortson; five daughters, Sandra Fortson and Anita Fortson of Milwaukee, WI, Alicia Fortson of Plano, TX; Varnita Smith of Phenix, City, AL, and Shanita (Tyrone) Thomas of Columbus, GA; one son, Oscar (Susanne) Fortson, Jr. of Victorville, CA; two sisters, Gaines Ella (Robert) Green of Atlanta, GA and Clarine James of Decatur, GA; three brothers, Walter Fortson of Stone Mountain, GA, Andre Fortson of Madison, WI, and Carl Fortson of Montgomery, AL; eleven devoted grandchildren, Brittany Kincaid, Deonte Fortson-Johnson, Domonique Fortson, Deshaun Fortson, Amber Fortson, Brandon Thomas, Terrance Smith, Correggio (Yasmine) Smith, Akela Fortson, Jaylan Fortson, Tyler Elias; three great grandchildren, Talizia Johnson, Kayden Smith, Deonte Fortson-Johnson, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
