The only child of farmers William and Lydia (née Tallentire), she was born in Baldersdale, a dale, or valley, on the east side of the Pennines in England, north of Barnard Castle. Baldersdale lies within the traditional boundaries of the North Riding of Yorkshire. Under provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, it was incorporated into County Durham for administrative purposes on 1st April 1974. Nevertheless, Hannah was proud to be considered a Yorkshire Daleswoman; and fittingly her birthday coincides with Yorkshire Day.
Her funeral service was at Barnard Castle Methodist Church on Friday, 16th February at 11.00a.m., followed by interment at Romaldkirk Cemetery.
