Merle Edward Lorenz, 75, Minot, died Saturday, August 7, 2004, in a Mandan hospital.

Merle was born January 23, 1929 on the family farmstead, south of Sawyer, ND, the son of William and Martha (Krueger) Lorenz. He was raised in the Sawyer area and attended country school there until 1941, when he moved to Bergen, ND, where he completed school.

Merle worked at Sweetheart Bakery for a few years. On November 5, 1950 he married Yvonne Stober at Ruso, ND. He entered the United States Army in 1951 and served 1 ½ years in France. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to North Dakota. He attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton for refrigeration. Following graduation he began employment at Sears Roebuck and Company in 1955 where he worked until his retirement in 1989.

Merle was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, the Eagles Aerie #2376, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #822, all of Minot. He was also a member of the Velva American Legion. Merle loved fishing, playing pinochle and playing pool.

Those Who Shared In His Life, Wife, Yvonne, Minot; son, Richard (Darlene) Lorenz, Hooksett, New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Tessa and Drue Lorenz; sister, Vida Mae (Lawrence) Petersen, Bismarck; sister-in-law, Kay (Vince) Hedrick, Jacksonville, N.C.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews survive; aunt Louise Roebuck, Velva, and several cousins. Merle was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha; brothers, Marvin, William, Jr., Waldo and Lloyd Lorenz.

Memorial Service: Thursday, August 12, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, cremation has taken place, but friends may sign the register, Wednesday, August 11, 2004, from noon to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial: Private burial will be held at a later time.
