Billy “Bill” Gene Avery, age 82, passed away on Sunday evening, August 5, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, La.

Born March 29, 1936 in Pineville, La, Bill was a proud graduate of Tioga High School, and later attended LSU.

Bill turned his passionate interest in foreign sports cars into a profitable vocation, founding Avery’s Import Auto Service.

Bill is survived by his wife, Robbie P. Avery, daughter, Linda Kaye Leinweber of Scottsdale, Arizona (husband Mark, children Scott and Lauren), son Jeffrey G. Avery of Grapevine, Texas (wife Kerry, children Brandon (wife Anna, child Logan) and Brian (wife Lindsey, children Everett, Eli and Aiden), son Christian T. Avery of Saint Amant, Louisiana (wife Lauren, children Lola and Eli), son A. Brock Avery of Baton Rouge, Louisiana (children Joel, Michael, and Audrey), and brother, Buster Avery of Virginia Beach, Virginia (wife Barbara).

He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Avery, Jr. and Audrey Smith Avery, and brothers Ralph Avery and David Avery.

Bill was proud to donate his remains to the LSU School of Medicine for purposes of medical education and research.

He was a member of the Tioga High School Alumni Association, the Tioga Historical Society, the Sports Car Club of America, and the English Car Club.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and will resume Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. until a memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area or St. Jude.
