CLIFFORD CAGLE SYLVA Senior Master Sergeant Clifford D. Cagle, 86, retired United States Air Force, of the East Cope Creek Community, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, as a result of an automobile accident. A native of Graham County, he had lived In Jackson County most of his life. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. In WWII he served In Europe and In the Pacific. He was a former post commander of the Sylva American Legion Post No. 104, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the former veterans service officer of Jackson County and an Air Force recruiter. He was a son of the late Eston M. and Irene Blanton Cagle. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Kin-kaid Cagle; three daughters, Lela Mae C. Jones of Chattanooga, Annette C. Mayfield of Atlanta, Janet Yvonne C. Wolfe of Venice, two sisters, Bessie C. Maney Buchanan of Sylva, Gertrude C. Sorrells of Jacksonville, two brothers, Fred Cagle of Marietta, Ga Shuford Cagle of Gainesville, and six grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Scotts Creek Baptist Church, of which he was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher. The Revs. Dr. David Boroughs and Lloyd Fish will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens. Full military rites will be conducted by a detachment from Shaw Air Force Base. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Old Field Cemetery Fund, co Major Allison, 93 Hearthside Lane, Sylva 28779 or Baptist Children's Home, Black Mountain 28711.
