“A Brief History of Tex Dunn Through Life”
Tex Dunn was born in Franklin, Indiana on November 8, 1912. From childhood his great ambition was to be a radio star. He ‘broke the ice’ in 1928 when the ‘Kentucky Mountaineers’ advertised for a new singer over KGER in Long Beach, California. Tex took an audition and got the job, ‘his first broadcast.’ That was fourteen years ago, and since then he has played over 90 different radio stations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, to millions of friends and listeners.
He loves to meet plain people, ‘the down to earth type,’ and to quote Tex, “I am a hill-billy and mighty dog-gone proud of it.” Tex has played for several governors, senators, and congressman and has had three chances to star in motion pictures, but they couldn’t use his band, so he refused the opportunity.
(from "TEX DUNN’S SONGS OF THE HEART" songbook )
Tex Dunn and his Virginia Hillbillies played for a regular radio show for station WCOA in Pensacola, Florida in the 1940s.
