Lance Alan Ackerman, 20, of Winchester, was found dead on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

He was born March 22, 1998, in Jacksonville, the son of Danny and Amy Young Ackerman.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Amy and Steven Grubb of Winchester; his father, Danny Ackerman of Baton Rouge, LA; paternal grandparents, Linda (Alan) DeWitt of Mt. Sterling, and Cindy Ackerman of Chandlerville; maternal great grandmother, Mickey Watkins of Jacksonville; maternal step grandparents, Frank and Sandy Grubb of Winchester; three step sisters and one step brother, Ashley (Seth) Hetelle of Chillicothe, Mathew (Laura) Grubb of Jacksonville, Lauran Grubb of Winchester, and Mariah (Scott) Ingram of Arlington, TN; and special cousin, Makenzie (Trevor) Henderson of Winchester. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Julia Radliff; paternal grandfather, John Ackerman, Sr.; and maternal great grandfather, Jack Watkins.

Lance was a 2016 graduate of Winchester High School. He then attended Quincy University on a cross country scholarship. He adamantly defended 2nd amendment rights and was a staunch conservative who regularly wrote his congressman. He enjoyed coyote hunting, fishing, and was an avid outdoorsman.

A memorial service will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Cougar Boosters to fund a scholarship in Lance’s name for Winchester High School track athletes.
