Merrill Patrick Evans passed away suddenly but peacefully on August 4, 2017. Merrill was born on March 17, 1941 in Washington, D.C. to Louis F. Evans and Roselle (Albracht) Evans. He grew up in the Maryland suburb of Silver Spring, and spent occasional summers helping out in an uncle’s seafood restaurant business on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Merrill was married to Jacqueline Evans for more than 4 decades, raising three boys: Jeffrey, Scott and Phillip. Merrill was a 20 year veteran of the United States Navy and served in ports from Honolulu, Hawaii to Rota, Spain. While Navy duties required occasional long absences, Merrill’s service provided his family with incomparable experiences with other cultures and countries.

After retiring, Merrill and his family moved to Bremerton where he worked for more than 20 years as a civilian at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor. Merrill was an active member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton for 12 years. He served in a number of positions with the church, including as head of the Finance Committee, as a Eucharistic Minister, an Usher, and with the Helping Hands Group. Merrill was also a longtime volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul. Merrill developed a deep passion for gardening and bonsai, and he was an active member of the Evergreen Bonsai Club for many years.

After Jacqueline’s death in 2005, Merrill was blessed to meet Perianne Yourkoski through their selfless work at St. Vincent de Paul, and they were married recently on June 24, 2017.

Merrill was preceded in death by Jacqueline and Phillip Evans.

He is survived by his wife, Perianne (Yourkoski) Evans, children Jeffrey (George Marek) Evans and Scott Evans, and granddaughters Samantha and Shannon Evans. Merrill is further survived by stepchildren Theresa Sisson, Karen (Mike) Smith and Michael (Jamie) Yourkoski, step-grandchildren Brandon, Brittney, Elizabeth, Aaron and Anna Sisson, Ashley (James) Moran, Marissa (Trevor Park) Smith, Allison and Hannah Yourkoski, and step-great grandchildren Liam and Makenzie Moran. Merrill is also survived by his brothers, David Evans and John Evans, and his sister, Peggy McGreevy.
