Lela Cagle Jones, of Red Bank, died on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005.

She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Ida Mae Cagle of Sylva, N.C.

Mrs. Jones graduated from Meredith College in North Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She also earned a master’s degree in elementary education from UTC. She was a schoolteacher in Tullahoma, TN, and Raleigh, NC, and briefly in Chattanooga until advancing health problems forced her to stop.

She worked tirelessly as a volunteer at Bethel Bible Village teaching reading skills to the disadvantaged children. She also organized a library there for use by the children and house parents.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Dr. Mike Jones; son, Mike Jr.; and three grandchildren, Alyssa Mae, Derek and Brandon Jones; her sisters, Mrs. Annette Mayfield, of Atlanta, and Mrs. Janet Wolfe, of Venice, FL.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel, 601 Ashland Terrace.

A memorial service will immediately follow at Red Bank Baptist Church, 4000 Dayton Blvd., from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to Bethel Bible Village Children’s Home, 3001 Hamill Road, Hixson, TN 37343.
