She was born March 21, 1932 in Lauderdale County, Tn, daughter of the late Charlie Watson & Lois Mabel Thurmond Lyell. She married Travis Glen Leggett March 14, 1952. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1998.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church #2. She loved to sew, and collected dolls, where she put her sewing skills to work, making doll clothes for them. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake and decorate cakes. She had a love for flowers and grew them with a green thumb it seemed. She loved animals and especially cherished her cat “Tom”, her last pet who died in 2017. She had a great love for family and tried to preserve memories of the past for those to come. In recent years, she had learned how to use a tablet and joined Facebook, where she was able to be in touch with so many friends and relatives she had lost touch with. It was such a joy for her to be able to socialize with everyone using Facebook, while being a shut-in.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Sybil Leggett of Union City; former daughter-in-law Rita Leggett Arnold, also of Union City; her foster daughter/baby sister, Brenda Lyell Arnold (whom she had raised from age three) and her husband, Charles of Champaign, IL; brothers Wayne Lyell of Portland, TN, Merlin Lyell and Marshall Lyell both of Union City; 4 granddaughters-- Danielle Leggett of Union City, Angela Webster of Bloomington, IL, Stephanie Fisher of Urbana, IL and Michelle Arnold of Champaign, IL; grandson Michael Arnold of Champaign, IL; 5 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her youngest son Dennis Leggett who died March 26, 2005; her sister Dorothy McCorkle and 3 brothers, Montelle Lyell, Dotson Lyell and David Lyell.
