Jim Hopwood passed away on August 29, 2016 at age 84. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, community leader and volunteer. He was born and raised in Oil City, PA. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War. He met & married Marilyn Gatesman in 1955, they were together for 57 years before her passing in 2012. He attended DeVry Technical College in Chicago then began his career as an electrical engineer and project manager at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA until his retirement in 1994. He served for 35 years as the President of the Delta Mutual Water Company in Oakley and more recently served as the President of Reclamation District 799 board. His proudest service accomplishment was volunteering as the Project Manager for the construction of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brentwood from 1997 until the church was dedicated in 2004. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying boating and fishing on the Delta. Preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Hopwood, his daughter Barbara Dilke, and his grandson Josh Hopwood. He is survived by his children Deborah Hopwood of Carmichael, Mark Hopwood (Denise) of Clayton, Matthew (Kym) Hopwood of Brentwood and grandchildren Elizabeth Dilke and Sean Hopwood.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral mass on Thursday September 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brentwood. Burial to follow at Oakmont Cemetery in Lafayette.
