He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor Mechanical Engineering degree in 1958 and graduated from Virginia Tech with a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. He served as a commissioned officer in the US Army Reserves for over 10 years and was on active duty in the United States and in Germany in 1961-1962. He was discharged with the rank of Captain in 1968. He had joined Exxon Research and Engineering Company in New Jersey prior to going on active duty. He transferred to Exxon Chemical Company in 1965 and spent the balance of his career with that organization. His career with Exxon included assignments in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas and Louisiana. He was Manager of the Baton Rouge Plastics Plant from 1981 to 1990 and then served as Project Executive at the Baton Rouge Chemical Plant from 1990 until his retirement in 1995. He was a life member of the Army Distaff Foundation, the American Philatelic Society, the Auburn Alumni Association and the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. He was also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society, Pi Tau Sigma Honorary Mechanical Engineering Society, Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity, the Society of Descendants of Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, and the International Society of Descendants of Charlemagne. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations may be made to your local Red Cross chapter or to your own favorite charity.
