Damion Shoquone Blaney was born March 8, 1996, in Charleston and departed this life on Monday evening, April 12, 2010.

He was the son of Tia E. Mitchell.

He was a student at Stonewall Jackson Middle School, where he was well loved and had many friends. Damion was a very bright, intelligent, well-mannered and respectful young man. He was very open minded, spoke what was on his mind and would trust and be friends with everyone. He played football for Western Generals, Number 81, and Stonewall Jackson Middle School. He liked basketball and enjoyed playing his PS3, getting on the Internet, talking on the phone and just walking around through the community.

Damion was preceded in death by his aunts Marsha Mitchell and Joann Lawson; grandfather Franklin David Belcher; cousin Charm; paternal grandparents Tyrone, Sr., and Gloria Blaney; and paternal great-grandparents Julius and Maestella Blaney.

Damion is survived by his loving mother, Tia Elaine Mitchell; grandmother Billie J. Mitchell; grandfather Reuben Thomas Johnson; uncles Rodney and Ron Blanks and Quinton Johnson; and aunts Stephanie, Trina, Carla, Francine and Tosha Long Belcher and Brenda Gail. He is also survived by his father Tyrone "Babe" Blaney; aunts Wanda and Anna Bailey; uncles Jerome and Derrick Blaney; great-aunts Phyllis Prater, Portia Webb, and Judy Price; great-uncle Julius Blaney, Jr.; and a host of cousins and friends.

Damion Blaney was killed when a bullet meant for someone else missed its target and hit him instead. The offender, age 16 at the time of the murder, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
