Joseph E. Grady (Joe) 82, went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, May 27th. He spent his final moments surrounded by his wife, Joy, his son Joseph, and his loving church family. It’s hard to describe Joe in words: they just can’t sufficiently describe all that personality that was in one person. He loved fiercely, had unwavering loyalty and with the strength of a man twice his size, he was a fearless defender of anyone being bullied.
Joe was a 1953 graduate of Muncie Central High School and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was attending Ball State University when he met Joy. Joy and Joe’s love story started 54 years ago when Joe randomly picked Joy’s phone number out of the Ball State phone book. Throughout their marriage Joe always bursts with pride when talking about Joy’s homemade pies and beautiful quilts.
A marketing guru, Joe was a partner in the advertising firm Haines, Lukins, Wilson, and Grady in which they represented local, regional and nationwide firms from Muncie, helping clients promote and market a wide variety of products. Joe was one of the first members on the Board of Directors of Ontario Systems, and went on to become their first Director of Marketing joining the firm full-time just two years after they were founded in 1982 when there were only a dozen associates. Joe went on to lead the marketing efforts of the young company for more than fifteen years as they grew into a national and international firm. Joe’s marketing and mentorship contributions to a young company won national awards as the company grew in prominence. As perhaps most fitting, Joe became Ontario Systems first retiree completing a decade- long marketing career.
He leaves behind his wife, two sons, James (Jim) Cox (wife, Donna) and Joseph Grady; three grandchildren, Breanna, Rebecca, and James; three great grandchildren, Emilio, Talia, and Theo; three nieces, Judy and Bill Fulton, Linda Strahan, and Patty Grady; and several other dearly loved family members.
He was preceded in death by his beloved brother Bob Grady, and his sister-in-law Nancy, and his mother and father, Emmett and Helen Grady.
His family will always cherish the hilarious, intense, and silly memories they have of their beloved husband, father, “papa”, and uncle, and will undoubtedly enjoy sharing these stories as his legacy lives on.
Joe was an active member of Yorktown United Methodist Church. Throughout the years Joe was involved in various committees and Bible study groups. He loved his church and church family.
Friends may call Sunday, June 3, 2018, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at The Meeks Mortuary, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Rd., or one hour prior to service Monday at the church.
