Gertrude Ainsworth, 81, died November 19, 2005 at St. John Hospital from complications of heart surgery. She was born April 15, 1924 in Detroit and lived most of her life in the Croswell-Lexington area. She married Sigma J. Ainsworth on May 22, 1944 in Port Huron.

Sig and Gert farmed in Lexington Twp. until his death on November 13, 1981. Gertrude graduated from Croswell High School in 1943 and was a self-employed bookkeeper and tax preparer until her death. She was very active in township politics and served 34 years as secretary of the Lexington Twp. Planning Commission, and 16 years as Lexington Township Trustee. Gertrude received the 2003 Michigan Outstanding Older Worker award and was recognized with a ceremony at the Lexington Township Hall.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephews, Kimberly and Robert O. Maskell, Jr. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, including the four special men in her life; Bob Maskell, Bart Babcock, Mark Maxfield, and Merlin Larson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Lexington. The Rev. Rich Eckelbarger, pastor of the Community Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Maskell, Bart Babcock, Merlin Larson, Mark Maxfield, Jerry Bartow, and Fred Kautz.
