Carolyn Newsome Evans, 85, of Phenix City, AL passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held 10:00 am EDT Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with her grandson Phil Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Newsome Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the funeral home.

Ms. Evans was born July 5, 1932 in Phenix City, AL to the late Alton Otis Newsome and Ruby Pearl McCollum Newsome. She was a lady full of grace whom was very devoted to her family. She took great pride in helping to organize the Art Guild, and Quilt Guild, she had taught art at the Phenix City Boys Club, and loved art and quilting. Ms. Evans continued her education in art and in 1988 she graduated from Auburn University and received her Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts at the age of 56. She was a member of Golden Acres Baptist Church in Phenix City.

She is survived by her children, Stan Everritt and wife Darlene, Jacqueline (Jackie) Smith, Jeri Bundrick and husband Charles, Charlene Martin and husband Ronnie, Reece Evans Jr. and wife Nell, and Dawn Dutton and husband Luke, her twin sister, Evelyn Newsome Ecton, and brother, Dan Newsome and wife Nellie, (16) grandchildren, (24) great grandchildren, a host of extended loving family members, and many caring friends. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the Columbus Hospice House in memory of Ms. Carolyn Newsome Evans.
