LEXINGTON 07/21/1942 - 05/01/2018 Eddie Tyree Adkins Jr., 75, of Hicks Road, Lexington, NC passed away Tuesday evening at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the residence on Hicks Road, Lexington, NC, where all are welcomed. Eddie was born in Carteret County, NC on July 21, 1942 to Eddie Tyree Atkins, Sr. and Cassie Dancy Atkins. He spent his early childhood in Reynolda Village where his family lived. He was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Northwest High School and soon after graduation he joined the U.S. Army. Showing his love for his country, he was a true patriot and showed his love by flying the United States Flag everyday. He was a kind, unselfish, strong and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Eddie enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was committed to them. He loved life, sports, reading and showing generosity to his community. These traits will be handed down for generations to come. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Evelyn Boyd Atkins; daughter, Nancy Morris (Randy); sons, David Atkins (Susan), Kenneth Atkins (Sara); grandchildren, Kenny, Blakeley, Bella and Andrew; sister, Sandra Jones (Ronnie) and other family members and close friends. He had a caring and loving relationship with Michiko Atkins, the wife of his youth and the mother of his children. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Eddie will be missed but, never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box, 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517, or a charity of choice.
