Rhonda Phillips Romeo, 58, of Columbus passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at her residence. Memorial services will be held Friday, August 8, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Ministry Center of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Beckum and Rev. Udell Addison will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Striffler – Hamby in Columbus. Mrs. Romeo was born January 18, 1956 in Columbus, Georgia the daughter of the late Buell and Melda Burt Phillips. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus . She was a dedicated employee in the medical field throughout her life, working at the Columbus Medical Center, Cobb Hospital in Phenix City, Hughston Clinic, Drs. George and Leland McCluskey, and most recently, St. Francis Hospital as a radiological technician. Mrs. Romeo served as past president of The Columbus Chapter for Radiologic Technologists and as an advisory board member for West Georgia Technical College. Mrs. Romeo was a graduate of Spencer High School and continued her education in Radiologic Technology from the St. Francis School of Radiology. She was the Student Coordinator for all radiology students at St. Francis Hospital. Mrs. Romeo was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She was a former president of the Now Sunday School Class. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, First Saturday, and St. Luke Prayer Chain. Mrs. Romeo was very involved in the community. She served on the Mission Awareness Team at St. Francis Hospital, participated in The American Cancer Society Relay for Life, and most recently volunteering in the St. Francis Hospital Gift Shop. Mrs. Romeo was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ricky Phillips. Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Frank Tomblin Romeo, Sr.; a son, Frank Tomblin Romeo, Jr.; a daughter, Frances Phillips Romeo; sisters-in-law, Annette Phillips of Douglasville, GA, Kay Romeo Taylor (Don) of Columbus; Mary Ellie Romeo Goodall (Doug) of Chestertown, MD, and Barbara Romeo Warren (Sam) of Columbus; brothers-in-law, Jack Stevens Romeo of Columbus and Timothy Boyd Romeo (Janis) of Charlotte, N.C.; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mrs. Romeo had a special love of animals and especially her sweet “Freddie”. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1104 2nd Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901 or St. Francis Hospital, 2122 Manchester Expressway, Columbus, GA 31904.
