He was born Sept. 11, 1906, in Galivants Ferry, the eldest son of the late Smiley Hampton and Foye Jenkins Skipper.
He was the widower of Getha Wallace Skipper, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage before her death on Feb. 2, 1995.
He was a retired farmer. He was a longtime member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, where he was actively involved in all aspects. He was a teacher of adult Sunday school class. He sang with and assisted in directing the church choir for many years. He served on the board of commissioners for Horry County Police.
Survivors include: six sons and daughters-in-la, Bill and Janice Skipper, and Richard and Wilmina Skipper, all of Conway, Joe and Corlous Skipper, Sammy and Geraldine Skipper, and Payne and Gayle Skipper, all of Galivants Ferry, and P.L. and Virginia Skipper of Kansas City, Kans; four daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Raleigh Johnson of Conway, Christine and Gilbert Lewis, Mary and Vernon Squires, and Wanda and Johnny Jenerette, all of Galivants Ferry; two brothers, S.H. Skipper of Galivants Ferry, and Jack Skipper of Conway; a sister, Doris Allen of Conway; 29 grandchildlren, and 31 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pisgah United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
